Description
Move Droppy uploads to an external FTP or SFTP server
FTP – Droppy online file transfer and sharing is a practical add-on for Droppy, the online file-sharing platform. It connects an existing Droppy installation to an external FTP or SFTP server, so uploaded files can live on separate storage instead of filling up the main web server. That separation keeps the application server lighter, makes storage easier to scale, and gives site owners more control over where shared files are kept.
How it works
Once installed, the add-on links Droppy to your chosen external server. Uploads are then stored away from the application itself, while Droppy continues to handle the sharing experience for visitors. The setup is deliberately straightforward, with standard connection options and support for secure transfers.
Key features
- Connect Droppy to an external FTP server
- Connect securely over SFTP as an alternative to standard FTP
- Sign in with a username and password, or with an RSA private key
- Keep large uploads off the main web server and free up its storage
- Separate application files from uploaded file storage for easier scaling
- Simple installation and ongoing updates
Who it is for
This add-on suits anyone already running Droppy who needs more storage headroom or wants uploaded files stored on a dedicated server. It is especially useful for teams sharing large files, agencies handling client uploads, and sites where hosting disk space is limited.
Requirements and compatibility
- Requires the latest version of Droppy – Online file sharing
- Requires a web server and a MySQL database
- Requires an external FTP or SFTP server
- Built with PHP, JavaScript and HTML, using CodeIgniter
- Compatible with PHP 7.x and PHP 8.x, and MySQL 5.x
- Note: this add-on will not work together with the Amazon S3 plugin for Droppy
Why choose this add-on
By moving file storage to an external server, you gain flexibility without changing how Droppy works for your users. Files stay accessible through Droppy, while storage can grow independently of your main hosting plan.
